Top 10 Cities for Beer Lovers (Sherman’s Travel)
Got this through the mailing-list for the MontreAlers brewclub. People are discussing some of the choices made by that travel agency but it’s still nice to see more awareness for beer tourism. Some beer lovers go to great extremes in those contexts and there’s a lot to be said about the cultural, economic, social, and even political importance of the quality beer movement.
The list, in alphabetical order:
I’m a bit surprised that we got beat by Mexico City, especially since (as the article says) they don’t have much in the way of brew pubs. Montreal has more than good brew pubs — we have tons of craft brewers and their products are widely available.
Not to knock Mexico City. I’ve never been there in fact. But when I’ve been in Mexico I did have a few somewhat interesting beers, such as the Negra Modelo, and Montejo.
When I take a “regular” beer, I get a Superior, not a Corona. They’re pretty much the same, but Corona just seems so “frat boy,” and besides, “dos Superior por favor” sounds more poetic than “dos Cornona por favor” (or at least it rhymes better).
Actually, the list is in alphabetical order and mostly corresponds to travel destinations that Sherman’s Travel deems worthy of beer lover interest. Discussion among beer brewers echoes your thoughts…
Montreal has a very excellent brewpub scene, especially in terms of diversity.

Jay Brooks, over at Brookston.org, had a lot to say about this list, (although much of it scathing). I do agree that Montreal should be on the list, though.

Belated thanks for the heads-up!
Seems that list generated a lot of heat for a seemingly normal “travel tip.”
Montreal really is a cool city for beer lovers. Those of us who live here often complain about the beer scene, especially the sorry state of imports, but we’re known as complainers anyway…
